Members of the Cooma day VIEW Club celebrate International Women’s Day at the Royal Hotel.Tuesday March 8 was International Women’s Day and the Cooma Day VIEW Club celebrated with a morning tea at the Royal Hotel. Place mats had been printed with a message to the women attending – reminding them that they are a unique combination of strength and beauty and wishing them a “Happy International Women’s Day.”
While enjoying coffee, tea and scones with jam and cream, the women of the VIEW Club participated in a quiz where they had to guess from a set of clues, who certain famous women were; Dame Nellie Melba, Cathy Freeman, Nancy Bird-Walton, Evonne Goolagong Cawley and Princess Mary of Denmark were a few of the well known Australian women who featured in the quiz.
The VIEW Club ladies also enjoyed listening to some pertinent quotes read out to them by club secretary Loretta Percival. The quotes contained such pearls of wisdom as “A woman is like a tea bag – you can’t tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water.” – Eleanor Roosevelt, and, “In our society, the women who break down barriers are those who ignore the limits.” – Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The pleasant morning wrapped up around midday, with all attendees having enjoyed celebrating being a woman on Internatonal Women’s Day.
