THE key to the longevity of Warrnambool’s Seaside Volleyball Tournament can be put down to quality and enjoyment, according to tournament director Craig Gibbs.

“It’s a combination of such a high standard of tournament and people havingfun down here,” he said.

Now in its 42nd year, the three-day competition will start with a round robin on Saturday and Sunday morning, before crossover finals on Sunday afternoon and finals on Monday.

Gibbs said entries are slightly down this year, given some teams from South Australia were unavailable, while some university-based teams missed the deadline for lodging teams, with term only starting this week.

Despite the decrease in numbers, Gibbs said the standard of volleyball from the 56 teams competing from Victoria, South Australia and Tasmaniawill be high.

“Some of the top team, particularly, this is a warm-up for their state league in the next couple of weeks,” he said.

“We’ve got players from Melbourne coming, all the top sides.”
