Senior Constable Peter Mellington has been working at the Natimuk station since Sunday.

Horsham Senior Sergeant David Ellis said the decision to give Sen Const Mellington the job was decided last month.

“He is a very experienced police member and will suit the community and serve it well,” he said.

Sen Sgt Ellis said in the absence of a member at Natimuk, the town had been serviced by Horsham.

“Natimuk is a secure and safe community,” he said.

“We don’t necessarily have all that many issues there but it is nice to have a police presence in Natimuk.

“From our perspective it’s better to have a member in the community people can call upon.”

Natimuk’s formerLeading Senior Constable Peter Taylor retired from police life in September last year.

He had been the sole officer at Natimuk sinceJanuary 2013.
