Macarthur’s very own Christie Lamb is supporting Kernaghan on his The Songs and The Stories concert tour.

The pair, and fellow rising country stars The Wolfe Brothers, will play Campbelltown Catholic Club’s The Cube on Saturday, April 23.

Kernaghan said he has played at the The Cube many times, and loved coming to the “outstanding venue”.

But this time will be even more special with Campbelltown Performing Arts High School graduateLamb along for the ride.

“It’s been an extremely exciting time touring with Christie,” he said.

“Seeing the way she’s been accepted by the nation is inspiring.”

Kernaghan was actually on stage to present Lamb with her first Golden Guitar award earlier this year, when she won for best new artist.

He was thrilled to present the Kirkham local with the award.

“When I opened the envelope I knew it was such a hotly contested category,” he said.

“I knew that winning would mean the world to her, so I was so honoured to read her name.”

Kernaghan said his latest tour would be a treat for new and old fans alike –but he doesn’t like to think of the people who enjoy his music as fans.

“I’ve never thought of people who come along to my shows as fans,” he said.

“I think of them more as an extended family. It’ll be a big family reunion at the Cube on April 23rd.”

The show will feature a selection of his greatest hits as well as tracks from his latest album –Spirit of the Anzacs.

Kernaghan said fans have never had the opportunity to hear this collection of songs together in one show before.

He said he appreciated the support of places like the Macarthur area, that were among his biggest champions when starting his career in 1992.

He is continually surprised and delighted that listeners connect to his music and stories.

“When I was in my 20s I was always looking to the US for inspiration,” he said.

“But as I got older my producer encouraged me to write about my personal story.

“I didn’t think I was interesting enough for that, but he said ‘Lee, you’re a bush boy, your dad drove a truck, your mum’s a dairy farmer’s daughter’.”

Catch Lee Kernaghan at The Cube on Saturday, April 23 from 8pm.
