Photo: BRIAN WOOD 030916bmecTHE proof is in the number ofbottoms on seats and judging by recent record attendances at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre, this year’s line-up of acts is proving a winner with theatre goers across the region.
It’s an indication of the quality of shows that have been booked at the local venue, with headline acts resulting in sell-out audiences.
Centre manager at BMEC Stephen Champion was glowing yesterday as he looked through his facts and figures for February.
“We had record theatre attendances over February, which is just great,” he said. “It shows that people are liking the shows we’re bringing to town.
“In fact, the February figures this year are the second highest overallattendances for that month since this venue opened back in 1999.
“There were sold-out performances by comedian Anh Do, musician Guy Sebastian and ventriloquist David Strassman.
“Other performances had very strong attendances among the six theatre shows for the month, including the seasonpremiere 4000 Miles and a concert by The Waifs.”
Mr Champion said total BMECattendance for the month was 3497, exceeded only by February 2008 with 3792, which included 1800 tickets sold for The Wiggles and a conference with 650 delegates over two days.
As for resting on their laurels at BMEC, the good news for residents is there is a jam-packed schedule forcoming months.
Shows scheduled for this month include Willie and Roy – The Legends on this Saturday night and on March 18 That Fabulous 60s and 70s Show is also expected to be a winner for BMEC.
